What is Form-16? How to Download Form 16? Complete Detail

Form-16 is an important tax document issued by employers showing salary details and TDS deducted during the financial year. It helps salaried employees file their income tax returns accurately and understand their tax deductions.

Form-16 is an important document for salaried employees. The employer issues it. In Form 16, it is shown how much TDS is deducted and how much salary is earned in the particular financial year.

It is mainly used for filing income tax returns under the rules of the Income Tax Department of India.

What details does Form 16 contain?

An employer issues Form 16, when TDS is deducted from an employee's salary, and it contains the details:

Pan and Tan details

Total Income

Form 16 is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B.

Part A includes the employer name, employer TAN, employer PAN, TDS deducted, and employment period.

Part B includes salary composition, allowances, deductions, and tax calculations.

Who will receive Form 16 from the employer?

You will usually receive Form 16 if you are working as a salaried employee and your employer deducts TDS from your salary. The employer must also submit the TDS return to the Income Tax Department of India, after which Form 16 is issued.

When is TDS deducted?

Salary above ₹700000 – TDS Deducted.

Bank interest is ₹40000 - 10% TDS.

Fixed deposit interest is ₹40000 - 10% TDS.

Professional fees is ₹30000 - 10% TDS.

Rent is ₹240000-10% TDS.

Commission is ₹15000 - 5% TDS.

No PAN Card – 20% TDS will be deducted.

These limits are based on the rules of the Income Tax Department of India.

How to Download Form 16?

There are different ways available to find your Form 16 or check TDS details

1. From Employer:

Ask your employer or HR, and they will provide Form 16 in PDF or by mail. It is the easiest way to ask your HR for Form 16 if your TDS is being deducted.

2. From Company Portal:

Many companies provide a login portal. You can download by logging in to the company portal, going to the tax section and selecting the financial year.

3. From Tax Portal:

You can check TDS details online if Form 16 is not available. Visit the Income Tax website and log in using your PAN and password. After logging in, click on View Form 26AS, select the required financial year, and download your TDS details.

Simple Tip:

Form 16 is given only when TDS is deducted from your salary.
